What is a placement?

When a company wants to raise additional funds, it can either increase borrowing or issue new shares (also known as issuing equity or raising equity capital).

When a listed company issues new shares, this is called a placement. Placements are typically issued without a full disclosure document, and therefore participation is limited to institutional investors or investors who qualify under s708 of the Corporation Act 2001(Cth).
